    Weekend Birdwatching

    Ciconia nigra ( Black stork ) A scarce transition migrator in Cyprus, it is generally seen in individual figures in late April/early May and from Sept to Nov. I was lucky to see seven this past Sat on the Akrotiri Salt Flats, and four of them again a piece after, likelily the same birds. Seeing seven together was a goody as they 're fairly close and solitary birds, even though they are sometimes seen in Numbers equally great as 30 exterior of their genteelness season.

    7 Ciconia nigra on the Salt Lake, 4 subsequently wing together farther south
    2 Ciconia ciconia
    Several Pernis apivorus
    1 Circus aeruginosus
    1 Sparrowhawk
    Several Red-footed Falcons at assorted places
    1 Northern Pewit
    1 Frill
    1 Snipe
    2 Black-headed Fools
    1 Bee-eater
    1 Roller
    a big flock of Spanish Sparrows
    and first Stonechats of the season
